How the Moon came to be by Angela Leusssink

How the Moon came to be

Once upon a time two Giants were playing a game of ball with a silver glowing ball. One was proud and the other humble. The proud one was Gigabob and the humble one was Boglin. The Giants were talking while they played ball, and the proud Giant said “I bet I am stronger then you” and the humble Giant answered “Maybe”. Then Gigabob said I bet I am faster than you and Boglin said, “Why don’t we race.” “Alright”, said Gigabob “lets.”

So they called all the Giants together and said, “We are going to have a race and we would like you guys to be present during the race.” At that time there was an old woman Giant who was visiting at the Giants castle, her name was Cacao and she said, “Whosoever wins this race I will give them a wish, but if you lose you will get the thing you hate the most.” Gigabob said really loud“I will wish for a castle and lots of gold and to become a king of all giants,” but Boglin said nothing. The next day both Giants got up to practise for when the day came which was in two weeks.

Gigabob was bragging that he would win the race and everybody was getting tired of his bragging. At first they had wanted him to win; now they knew he was so puffed up with pride that he needed someone to teach him a lesson. So they wanted Boglin to win, but everybody thought that Gigabob was faster then Boglin, but Boglin told them not to worry. Nobody knew that Boglin had been practicing running ever since he last raced which was two years ago and he had lost, so then he decided to practice until he was the best runner ever and he did.

At last the two weeks were past and tomorrow was the race. Both runners went to bed early to get lots of rest. The next morning they went to the race track, and everybody was there. Even foreign Giant kings and queens were there and many others. “This is my lucky day” whispered Gigabob to Boglin. I will become famous because I will run so fast and plus I will get my wish and you will get what you hate most. Then he laughed, but Boglin said nothing. The trumpeter blew the trumpet and called for silence then he shouted “let the race begin when I blow my trumpet.” 1….2…..3….trumpet and they were off.

Gigabob was right away in the front gaining all the ground he could, but Boglin went in a slow lope he knew the race was long and he had to preserve his energy. Gigabob started to get tired two kilometre away from the finish line so he stopped for a rest but it didn’t bother him because Boglin was so far away he was at least 3 kilometres away. He got up when he was rested and started to run again, but before he started he turned around and there was Boglin just 5 metres away. Still in his slow lope the crowd was cheering him on. Gigabob started to run as fast as he could but he was tired Boglin wasn’t, and Boblin started to run faster and faster till you could barely see his legs, and then he passed the finish line. Everybody cheered as loud as they could accept Gigabob. He hung his head in shame for he had bragged so much before the race and he lost.

Then he saw the old lady named Cacao and he knew that he would get the thing he hated most and the thing he hated most was darkness. Then Cacao said from now on Gigabob there will be 12 hours of darkness because of you, the other Giants will use it as a time of rest, but because you hate darkness you will never be able to rest properly during the darkness which I will call night. Then she turned to Boglin and said “what is your wish” and Boglin said I wish that there would be a big shiny silver glowing ball in the sky called the moon so that Gigabobs night won’t be so unbearable. You have been kind to your enemy when you could have had everything for yourself you will get gold and precious jewels and will be King of Giants and, Gigabob will get his moon said Cacao, and that is how the moon came to be.
