Valerie Walker was born in London, England, which is where she discovered hedgehogs. She has been fascinated with these spiny creatures ever since. She emigrated to Canada in 1956 and has made Calgary her home ever since. She wrote The Adventures of Hedley the Hedgehog when her first grandchild was born. She wrote four more books about hedgehog before turning her attention to writing time-travel books for juveniles. Mystery in the Attic is set in Calgary on the eve of Alberta becoming a province. The Quest for Kananaskis involves the same three cousins who go back in time to find out more about the young brave the area is named after.
Her latest book, Looks Can Kill is a thrilling adventure novel for young adult and it is proving to be equally polar with adults.
Valerie enjoys visiting schools and talking about writing and how to get started. She is currently working on a prequel to The Adventures of Hedley the Hedgehog. This book concentrates on the birth of the young hoglets and how they develop and learn, and of course, their adventures. Hedley the Hoglet of Sunbury Farm will be out sometime in 2017.
